Children of the Sea is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Daisuke Igarashi. It was serialized in Shōgakukan's seinen manga magazine Monthly Ikki from December 2005 to September 2011. The story follows Ruka Azumi, a young girl who meets Umi, a strange boy raised by dugongs. They both have supernatural aquatic gifts and are joined by Sora. The manga was adapted into an anime film in 2019. Children of the Sea received critical acclaim for its vibrant artwork and unique storytelling, although some criticized its slow plot. It was nominated for various awards and won an Excellence Prize at the 13th Japan Media Arts Festival. The manga is licensed in North America by Viz Media.
