Palmyra (Russian: Пальмира, romanized: Palmira, lit. 'Palmyra'), or (Russian: Однажды в Пустыне, lit. 'Once in the Desert') is a 2022 Russian war film directed by Andrei Kravchuk. It tells the story of the Russian sappers working on a military operation in Syria. The film was released on February 17, 2022. Set in May 2016, the story revolves around the Russian sappers who were preparing Palmyra for a concert by the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra. Principal photography was conducted in the Republic of Crimea and was completed in November of that year. Some outdoor scenes were shot in Palmyra itself by Syrian film producers.
